Luxxotica also has patents on the hinges of frames. It's a failure of Congress that no one even mentions this monopoly, but guess what ... luxxotica owns them too.

Who ever designed this hinge should never be allowed near anything mechanical again. Just the simple act of removing glasses from my face has caused these to come apart multiple times. Then I have to search for a video to fix them and there is not much help, especially in english. These are my first and LAST pair of ic berlins!!

By contrast, I have only used IC Berlin; I have both the hinge types and they work perfectly for me. I own mine without issue for 5 years now.

So AGAIN today I simply reached over and picked my glasses and the arm came off - AGAIN. That was 10 minutes ago and I am STILL trying to get it back on after watching the video part 1:10-1:20 repeatedly! As they say results may vary - I will not be buying these ever again!

This is hilarious - you just know this wouldn't be a story for 60 Minutes if Luxottica was an American company. Why don't they have the same concerns about giant American conglomerates who own dozens of brands.

Sounds like a successful business to me! It doesn’t seem that there is any economic rent or any affiliation to any sources of power involved in this success, so what’s the problem? They earned what they have! We need to understand that they have a different business model, they choose not to be the affordable one! and trust me the day that less expensive eyewear makers can increase the quality or do a great job on marketing, they will have serious problems… So it takes works to be where they are.

A scumbag company run by a mafia styled individual “Oakley decided we are better together”. Was that before or after goons broke their kneecaps with baseball bats? This Luxotica guy is an absolute sociopathic creep. You cannot compare eyeglasses to shoes. Glasses are medical devices that people need to SEE with. As a person who who had been very nearsighted since the 4th grade, I needed glasses to find my glasses. My eyesight got worse and worse every year until it was around -600. As an adult I needed eye exams and new prescription glasses and sunglasses yearly in addition to contact lenses. Most of the time I didn’t have vision insurance so I paid out of pocket for everything which came to well over $1,000 to $1,500 a year due to my high prescription, needing high index lenses so my glasses didn’t look like coke bottles and coatings like anti-reflective and scratch resistant. Then as I got older I needed progressive lenses which only added to the cost. Since I’m not rich this put a huge dent in my budget & I never bought anything even close to designer frames. I usually went to LensCrafters since I could put everything on my Care Credit card and pay it off interest free over 12 months. Last year I needed cataract surgery at a fairly young age due to being so nearsighted for so many years. My doctor inserted lenses into my eyes that corrected my vision (a MIRACLE)! For the first time in my life I can see in the shower and see clearly when I wake up. My glasses Rx now is very slight and I only have a slight correction for distance and driving at night. I ordered glasses online from EyeBuyDirect and Zenni Optical & they are PERFECT. I took them to a optical shop and had them checked on the machine for the correct Rx and they are perfect. My advice to anybody is to buy glasses online if you are able to. Zenni had the best prices & I was able to buy 2 pairs of Rx glasses (1 regular & 1 pair of sunglasses) for around $50.00. These same glasses would have been $600-$700 at LensCrafters. I always avoided buying glasses online before my surgery due to my complicated Rx. I’m not sure why the US allows this creep to have an utter monopoly on the retail prescription glasses business. Boycott LensCrafters, Target Optical, Sears Optical and be smart and purchase glasses online. I would love to see online retailers and Warby Parker run this creep out of the U.S.

Luxottica cheapened one of the most iconic American brands with their purchase of Ray-Ban in 1999. Consider investing in vintage Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban sunglasses. You’ll find some of the best were made between the mid-1940s and mid-1970s. B&L’s craftsmanship, quality and advanced lens technology are unsurpassed (even by today’s standards). At least you’ll get what you pay for with vintage B&L Ray-Bans!

I retorted to scan Ebay, about 7 years ago, and try to find plenty of B&L models, which had decent prices, and was lucky enough to get many of them at absurd prices, some of them at decent ones, and a few with high prices, such as a 1965 5022 which had a documented history. Made a group of them for a very good price, and even added a few equally cheap Luxottica models. And let me tell you, I still use the B&L ones every day, and the Luxo ones have gone to shite in different moments.

The answer to this is to use Zenni Optical online. As a consumer you have the right to get a copy of your prescription from your eye doctor and use it to order from Zenni. Just make sure they include the Pupilary Distance (PD) measurement.

I’m concerned about the quality of LENSES from market stalls vs those in departmental stores vs those in optical shops. Esp when it comes to polarized lenses or anti-UV ones, how do we know they are really good? Sunglasses can range from $20 plus to $200 plus. Are the $20 plus quality the same? Luxottica makes glasses for 0.5billion ppl so there are surely other companies making dubious lenses. How are consumers to know? The video mainly talked about the FRAMES which doesn’t even matter to eye health. Could someone enlighten me on how to source for reasonably-priced glasses with good-quality lenses?
